about us

All this began a while ago in Pirton, a small village in Hertfordshire. Very comfortable, a bit boring, fostering a desire to escape and a love hate relationship Fruition created a band that share common dreams (remember those?), they believe in music, in its power to change lives like very little else in this damn world. They felt it themselves firstly as music fans and later during the mayhem of their own incendiary live shows.

That’s how it started, friends in their early teens, picking up guitars, changing line-ups until it worked, and then changing again to improve. Finally, they had a settled five-piece line-up - Pete D Smith (vocals), Simon Stimson (lead guitar), Chris Smith (rhythm guitar), Doug Tackley (bass), and Chris Low (drums).

Rehearsing anywhere and doing the same for gigs they learnt their craft playing mainly covers along with a few originals until they had managed to pull together enough quality songs to fill a set. After this came more practice, more songs, more gigs.

Further development became harder as the drummer and the bassist headed off to university. For a less together band or a less tight group of friends this could have been the end, but Fruition kept going rehearsing when they could and getting back together for gigs. The reputation continued to grow leading to headline slots at Hitchin’s 200 plus capacity Club 85.

Local music collective Live Circuit were impressed enough to sign a one-CD deal. Recorded in the band’s own studio, the Reachin’ Out EP was released in summer 2003.
The arrival of Reachin’ Out led to London gigs and an invite to take part in the Radio One sponsored Transit Tour the following spring.

July saw Fruition playing the opening slot on the main stage at Rhythms of the World, the largest free festival of world music in the UK. Despite the early start they played to a massive crowd, even being called back for an encore – unfortunately, having been told to stick to the time slot, half the band were already on their way to the bar.

Fruition continued playing regular gigs in bigger venues to bigger crowds, both in the Herts region and at London venues such as the Rhythm Factory, Upstairs at the Garage, 333 Old Street, Notting Hill Arts Club and Camden Underworld. They have also recently supported Larrikin Love, The Modern, The Holloways and The Rifles and are hoping to get more of these supports as well.

The CD single, “Ticking Away” was released on Latent Lemon Records in December 2005 and was well received and the band are just about to release a new single ‘Black Mariah’ on Talk Of The Town Records and hope to take things a lot further with this release. They continue to gig lots and are trying to spread their wings further a field with a few tours in the near future.
