about us

Hello there, we are The Regulars, a magnificent ska octet (that means there are 8 of us, Billy) from South London. We’re pushing 20, and have been around in our present state for almost 5 glorious years. What have we done in that time? Well… not that much really. By divine right we really should be signed by now and the biggest band in the land.. but everything seems to have conspired against us.. school and that.. gap years and that.. and now university! We still keep plugging away though and one day, when we finally get our arses in gear, we’ll be huge! Promise..

Our gig tally is constantly on the rise as we catch the attention of more and more people in (relatively) high places, we’ve played Leicester Square 4 times now, and in February 2006 we actually played with our first major band! And what a band as well. 26 years on and The Selecter (yes I know they can’t spell) are still going with recent support from yours truly! We went down a storm and hope this will spur us on to bigger and better things.

We’ve twice ventured into the music studio, having recorded our debut EP, "The Resistible Rise of The Regulars", at the end of 2003 – at the tender age of 17. It received riotous praise from all who listened to it. Then came the even mightier behemoth, "Going Continental", which surpassed its predecessor in terms of acclaim, sales and female attention. We're currently seeking employment from an enormous record company who want to give us a £10 million 10 album deal with complete artistic freedom.. (if that’s you, contact us at theregularsska@yahoo.com and we’ll send you the address to send the contract).

If you would like to find out more about us feel free to browse our website or download some of our tracks from our download.com page. If you'd really like to find out more about us then get your arse over to one of our shows in the near future, or drop us an email requesting either of our stupendous recordings. Or offer us 7 figures (money or otherwise) and we’ll be putty in your hands…
ANYWAY, as if you care, here's how it all began...
Long ago in 2001, South East London, 4 little rudies started up a punk band. These rudies were called "Funtime Franky" (Guitar), "Gus" (Guitar), "Baha" (Bass) and "Tam" (Drums). We had some fun, annoyed some neighbours, and eventually learned how to play our instruments. However, we soon grew tired of the samey punk songs we were banging out, and decided to take our musical talent in a new direction.
Before long we were searching the land for talented brass players. We found two boys named "Max the Sax" (Saxophone) and "Pu Bear" (Trumpet). Nice. However, something was lacking. And, upon hearing Gus and Baha’s attempts at singing, it was pretty damn obvious what that something was. So, we set out in search of a singer. Along came a talented young whippersnapper by the name of "Dan" (Vocals). He had big side burns, and could sing, which was a bonus.
After a lot of practices, late nights, beers and projectile vomit attacks, we had our first ever gig at the Net in Kensington, July 2002. What an awful place, but never mind. We were pleased with our performance, so we decided to keep the Regular sound alive.
We soon got to work writing original material, and by Jove, it was actually pretty good! After a few gigs went down a storm we thought fuck it! Let’s blow a load of money on recording. And thus, in 14 of the most hard working hours of our lives, “The Resistible Rise EP” was born in November 2003. At our launch night (yes, at a school talent show.. shut up), Bob Geldof, who was in attendance (actually), proclaimed “These boys will go far”. Needless to say he didn’t sign us there and then. We still sometimes sit by the phone waiting for him to call.. Anyway my point is that it was received to universal acclaim. At the last count we had shifted 50,000 copies (estimated).
2004 proved to be a cracking year for the Regulars, with gigs aplenty, and money flying in from promoters, venues and indeed fans worldwide. We were finally on our way to becoming a Regular touring machine, and we did notch up a fairly whopping gig tally during 2004. The last few months of the year were spent working on a new Regulars recording...
...Which was released at the start of 2005! Entitled "Going Continental", it's a full-length release that has already garnered the praise of all who hear it. It was a pretty quiet year for us.. many went traveling the globe, whilst others decided to paint.. But towards the end of 2005 it was all change. We recruited a new member, “Joe” (Tenor Sax), as Will was constantly fucking off to South Korea to see his parents.. (yes I’m thinking the same thing as you.. the regulars should take priority). So a couple of gigs were played here and there without everyone’s favourite trumpeter, but don’t fret cos we’re all together now in our new 8-piece state and ready to rock the casbah!

2006 could well be the year of the Regular. With a support slot for The Selecter already under our belts and a forthcoming university tour, you best keep your eyes peeled, before world domination ensues.. And who knows.. maybe one day we'll even be drinking Bollinger out of flutes instead of Special Brew out of shoes.. that would be nice.
